Chief wants fisheries centre open

Quoting the Solomon Star newspaper – 17 June 2018

“A PARAMOUNT chief of Tandai Ward in North West Guadalcanal is calling on authorities to quickly open the recently built Tambea Fisheries Centre in North West Guadalcanal.

“Chief Raymond Kapini says he wanted to see the facility open and put into use for the benefit of the public.

“He urged the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and their MP Bodo Dettke to push for the opening of the fisheries centre.

“Work on the Fisheries Centre started last year is now completed,” Mr Kapini said.

“What’s left is to official open it so that it can serve its purpose,” he added.

“We would like to see it open as it will help our fishermen within the three wards of Tandai, Sagalu and Savulei to have a market place to sell their fish, instead of coming to Honiara.”

“The Fisheries Centre is built purposely to provide a market venue for local fishermen as well as a centre for fishermen to purchase ice cubes to preserve their catches.”
