Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has confirmed that there is now a positive community tested COVID-19 patient in Honiara.

The Prime Minster made the confirmation during a nationwide address this morning.

He said the positive patient left Ontong Java on 10th January 2022 onboard a passenger vessel just before the positive cases on Ontong Java were detected. He said others on the vessel are therefore exposed including those they may have come into contact with on arrival in Honiara.

The Prime Minister says that all those exposed and at risk must not move from their residence. They are to call health and medical authorities at 115 or 25256 and stay where they are, the medical team will come to you.

Prime Minister Sogavare says immediate measures will look at containing the spread of the virus within Honiara boundary.

Cabinet will convene today to consider a lockdown for 6pm this evening.

The Prime Minster says all citizens in Honiara must minimise movement in the city and all employees in the public and private sector to cease work by mid day today.

Facemasks must be worn today including other measures like social distancing and hand sanitizers.
