Could the Goodridge Foundation in Australia and the Israeli Embassy in Canberra help with urgent heart surgery for a sick young girl in the Solomon Islands

This week the Solomon Star newspaper gave details of the plight of 16 year old Linta Mabo of Mabo Roghavolo village in North Guadalcanal who is suffering congestive cardiac failure/Valvular Heart disease as a result of Rheumatic Heart Disease and needs SBD$300,000 to undergo heart surgery in Australia.

Her parents have appealed for financial support for their daughter to undergo urgent surgery in Australia by June.

“The fundraising is critical since she has been ill for long period now and since our National Referral Hospital cannot afford to do heart surgery here, we kindly seek support,” the parents said.

Reading of Linta’s condition and her need for surgery, I also wrote an appeal through the local newspapers in the hope some good Samaritan would help her.

Today, her condition and need for medical treatment has been taken up by a youth, Andy Tolobua, who previously suffered the same heart condition as Linta but who fortunately was able to go overseas and get treatment which saved his life.

Andy Tolobua made the call through the Island Sun newspaper because he shared the same life situation and successfully underwent lifesaving heart surgery in Israel.

“As a person who went through similar situation, I am calling on the public to come forward and support her to give Linta a second chance to live,” he said.

He said after his surgery he is living a normal life because of the support from the public, friends and families and with the help from the Goodridge Foundation in Australia and the Wolfson Medical Center in Israel.

He underwent lifesaving heart surgery on 18 July 2019 at the Wolfson Medical Center by a volunteer medical team of Save a child’s heart in Israel.

Comment.

I would like to support Andy’s call for Linta and very much hope the Goodridge Foundation in Australia as well as the Government of Israel and the Wolfson Medical Centre will respond to the call for help very soon.

It is my understanding that when the Israeli Ambassador based in Canberra last visited the Solomon Islands he told the Prime Minister Israel stood ready to help with medical needs in the Solomon Islands.

I would hope that offer of assistance will be given to Linta.

Yours sincerely
