Covid-19 in Australia: 1533 cases in NSW, 190 in Victoria

According to the latest news relayed by Radio New Zealand, New South Wales has recorded 1533 new locally acquired cases on Covid-19 and four deaths.

There are now close to 11,000 people with Covid-19 currently being cared for by the New South Wales Health

Victoria has recorded 190 new cases of Covid-19 while Queensland has recorded a two community cases, one in a four-year-old girl and one in a truck driver, but will not be imposing restrictions in the state.

The four-year-old girl who attended the Boulevard Early Learning Centre at Mount Warren Park in Logan was announced late on Friday and confirmed today.

She is a close contact of a 46-year-old truck driver who tested positive on Thursday.

Queensland chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young said she was comfortable with the risks from the child.

"I'm fairly comfortable that we have the risks from the child, probably covered by having the school and that early learning centre go into quarantine. I'm very grateful to all those families for doing that."

However she was concerned about the truck driver's having visited Beenleigh Marketplace.

"So the truckie attended there Monday morning. So last Monday morning and was there while infection. And he did go into that Stylish Now Nail salon for 45 minutes."

"We are working with the owners of that salon who have been very helpful to work through who else was there while he was there."

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath said the next two days will be critical.

"So far there is no restrictions on any stadium, any events. We are not changing the level of restrictions in Queensland other than in the Logan LGA area we are restricting visitors around hospitals, aged care and disability facilities," Ms D'Ath said.

"That's a normal process when we are concerned that there may be community cases.

"That's the only restrictions we have put in place. The next 48 hours is critical here."

Of the new cases in Victoria, 103 are linked to known cases and outbreaks.

Health authorities say more information will be provided later about the number of cases who were in quarantine while infectious.

There are 1,301 active cases in the state.

The new cases were identified from more than 49,500 test results received yesterday, while there were 35,464 doses of vaccine administered at state-run sites.
