Call to plant more trees in the Solomon Islands

Quoting the Solomon Star newspaper – 21 February 2018

“The reforestation division within the Auki Forestry Office, Malaita province has encouraged tree farmers in Malaita to plant more trees for future benefits.

“The encouragement was part of Auki reforestation team preparation for distribution of Mahogany seedlings and planting programs to its associated schools and interested tree out-growers in Malaita province next month.

“Auki reforestation senior officer Ronnie Aiwewe has strongly encouraged that planting trees is important for benefits of future generation of Solomon Islands.

“He said the future of our existing primary forests in the Solomon Islands is not looking promising compared to the continue increase of forest exploitation activity in the country.

“He said everyone must try to take responsibility to plant more trees for the future of their future generations

“Everyone should understand that at the end of the day you or your children will be benefit from the hard work.

“Its time for us to sacrifices for the future lives, we must plant our own trees rather than waiting for the government for support us. Our forests are now declining at its alarming rate.

“Tree is part of our life where every living thing is depending on for sustainability of their lively hood.

“If you want to make your future less expensive, you must start to plant trees to build future homes or for commercial purpose,” Mr Aiwewe said.

“Meanwhile Mr Aiwewe discourages attitudes of much depending on government’s supports program.

“He said government can only support directly to farmers when money is available for funding projects.”
