SI: MAIN PACIFIC GAMES STADIUM EXPECTED TO BE FUNDED BY CHINA

CHINA TO FUND STADIUM

Quoting the Island Sun newspaper – 24 September 2019.

“The National Hosting Authority, the body charged to deliver the 2023 Pacific Games is confident that the recent switch of the country’s alliance from Taiwan to the People’s Republic of China will not affect the ability of the country to deliver the Main Stadium that Taiwanese government was going to deliver for the Pacific Games that will be held on Honiara from 14th to 28th July 2023.

“Christian Nieng the Acting Executive Director of NHA Secretariat stated that the Government of the Republic of China was committed to the delivery of the stadium and the planning was well developed. For that support the NHA is extremely appreciative of the support by Taiwan that was provided over the last two years to bring the planning forward to this advanced stage.

“With the change in Solomon Islands ties to PRC, Mr Nieng was positive in stating the all indications are that the new alliances will enable the main stadium to proceed as planned although now a new contractor will need to be appointed and new contracts developed.”
