Tourist arrival declines in Solomon Islands

Quoting Island Sun newspaper – 7 October 2019

“Tourist arrival saw a decline in the last six months.

“This was indicated in the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) monetary policy statement.

“The bank noted that domestic economic activities have been weak following subdued performances from economic sectors including tourism.

“Tourism service deficit has deteriorated to $400 million as visitor numbers declined.

“The bank revealed fiscal sustainability will be an issue with the draw down in logs amidst no new revenue.

“The bank indicated that there is an expected widening to the country’s account deficit.

“The total revenue and grants collected this year has fallen below what was expected which is lower than the last six months of 2018.”
