TAIWAN STEPS IN TO GIVE URGENT MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO THE NRH

Taiwan donates medical supplies

Quoting the Solomon Star newspaper – 18 July 2018

“THE Taiwanese government on Tuesday stepped in to donate medical supplies worth SBD$80,000 to the National Referral Hospital (NRH).

“This was part of its quick response to the current drug situation which, is said to be in short supply at the country’s main hospital in Honiara.

“As a faithful developing partner in the health sector, the Taiwan Embassy instructed the Taiwan health centre to arrange a quick response solution and to prepare medical supplies to donate to the NRH’s operation theatre, said Taiwan’s Alice Hsu.

“Ms Hsu, the Taiwan Health Centre leader who is station at the Taiwan Health Centre at NRH, explained that the materials donated are mainly for the surgical ward.

“These includes; gauzes, bandages, barrier surgical gowns, gloves, laryngeal masks airways, endo tubes, ambu masks, filters, surgical sutures, Nasogastric tubes, Foley tubes, microsurgery knifes, blades, haemostats, anaesthetic and disinfection agents.

“Ms Hsu said that apart from the assistance, Taiwan Health Centre has dispatched an ENT specialist Dr. Lin Yichu from Taiwan to be stationed at NRH.

With currently no ENT specialist at NRH, she is providing out-patient service and in-patient service.

Other than that, she will also share her knowledge with local medical team, and lecture the medical lessons for training the bridging interns program.

Dr. Lin will remain at NRH this month.

NRH Acting Chief Executive Officer (ECO) Dr Rooney Jagilly described the assistance as timely to help the surgical ward.

He thanked the Taiwanese government and her people for assisting the people of Solomon Islands during this challenging time.
