Wanted second hand clothing for children and elderly widows in the care of Hearts of Hope (Hoh) charity, Solomon Islands

The charity run run by volunteer ladies on the island of Malaita cares for many elderly widows and more than a thousand orphan children, boys and girls and desperately needs supplies of second hand clothes for all those in their care.

I write this letter by way of an appeal for second hand clothing in the hope my plea might reach organizations willing to help.

I particularly have in mind the UK charity Planet Aid (UK) which is a not for profit company which raises funds for the environment and development mainly through the mainly through the collection, sorting and trading in second hand clothes and shoes. All net profit is donated to development work in India and Africa, either directly via the International Humana People to People Movement, or through the registered charity DAPP UK (Reg. No: 1118290).

Since 2002, Planet Aid UK has donated over £900,000 to Humana projects including teacher training colleges, vocational training, street children schools, tree planting schemes, health care and community development. Planet Aid UK is the British member of the Humana People to People movement, which currently operates more than 1000 projects in 45 countries around the world.

I would request any help that the Briitish High Commisioner in Honiara might give in reaching out to Planet Aid (UK), or perhaps Save the Children, Oxfam, with British links, might be able to give.

There could be other charities in Australia, New Zealand and in the USA that donate clothing to developing countries and I would request other diplomatic partners of the Solomon Islands to assist the HOH charity in supporting all those that are in need and in the daily care of the HoH volunteer workers.

Yours sincerely
