Book launch: Solomon Islanders in World War II

Quoting the Solomon Star newspaper – 8 August 2018

“The Australian High Commission is delighted to partner with Solomon Islands National University (SINU) and Solomon Islands Coastwatchers Trust to present Annie Kwai’s book launch ‘Solomon Islanders in World War II: An Indigenous Perspective.’

“The book will be officially launched this evening.

“Ms. Kwai was awarded an Australian Awards Scholarship to undertake her doctorate at the Australian National University. Ms Kwai’s book is the first of its kind outlining the local female perspective of the war and its effect on the Solomon Islands socially, culturally and politically.

“Ms. Kwai’s achievement is one of many successful stories of the partnership between Australia and Solomon Islands.

“Over the past ten years, more than 6000 Pacific Islanders have been recipients of Australia Awards scholarships to study in Australia with almost 60 per cent awarded to female recipients.

“Ms Kwai hopes her book will ‘…inspire other Solomon Islanders to document more historical narratives coming down from older generations.’
