Cook Islands automates weather system

Quoting Radio New Zealand – 9 August 2019

“The Cook Islands meteorological service has upgraded its weather system.

“The director of the weather office, Arona Ngari, said part of the upgrade involves moving from manual to automated stations.

“He said this will reduce the need for manpower to carry out observation.

“Mr Ngari said all of the islands in the Cooks now have the ability to access digital data for planning purposes.

"For example, we do a daily rainfall collection - and maybe over a period of 3-6 months you can a pattern of rainfall, especially in the remote islands.

"So that can help them with rainwater harvesting - maybe with the bigger buildings they can put up some extra water spouting up and [have] more tanks to contain [the water]."
