Solomon Islands:  A hard hitting diagnosis of the ill health of the local medical services and a suggested prescription plan for remedial treatment and recovery.

In today’s Solomon Star newspaper, Dr. Transform Aqorau has written a hard hitting surgical article cutting to the bone and exposing the shocking state of local health services.

His diagnosis for the state of affairs he puts squarely on past elected Members of Parliament that have held office over successive years but  he stopped short of saying myopia might have been a primary cause of their failings.

Dr Transform had nothing to say but praise for the dedicated doctors, nurses and health professionals working in the over-stretched and grossly ill-resourced health services but confided that the prevailing working conditions were having an adverse affect on morale.

He made an appeal much by way of a long-term prescription to the likely incoming crop of MP’s and hoped that by them taking the medicine without shirking the consequences of missing the treatment the health services might eventually recover.

One has personally devoted much time in bringing to notice the shortcomings in the health services, especially in the rural areas and at the NRH but at the same time tried to alleviate the shortages of equipment and resources by working in partnership with ‘Take My Hands’ in New Zealand.

Dr Transform is a local and much respected academic and it is my hope that his sound, factual diagnosis of the health of the local health services and his prescription will be heeded and recovery soon come about.

Yours sincerely

Frank Short
