WATER CRISIS HITS HONIARA

Quoting the Solomon Star newspaper 11 February 2020

“HONIARA City is currently facing a water crisis since last week following the shutting down of Solomon Water’s water source at Kongulai.

It is understood that current heavy rains experienced in the country is the major cause.

This was then confirmed in a statement issued by the State Owned Entity last Friday.

Yesterday, Solomon Water delivered an update of the situation in another separate statement.

“Solomon Water would like to inform our valued customers that supply from our Kongulai source remain shut down due to the unstable weather conditions experienced currently in Honiara that caused heavy rains at our Kongulai Source causing high turbidity (dirt particles in water) and making it potentially unsafe to supply and distribute water to our customers

“This is necessary to protect our water system, pipes and meters from damage and to ensure water is properly chlorinated to make it safe,” the statement said.

“Meanwhile, Solomon Water is advising customers who are still receiving water to store water for use in buckets and containers and boil all water for food preparation and consumption.”
