144 more Solomon Islanders are getting ready to be deployed to work in the meat industry in various locations in Western Australia, under the longer-term Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS).

This is the second and biggest cohort to be sent to Western Australia since the last cohort was mobilized in 2019. The group will depart 28 July on a Solomon Airways charter flight.

Speaking during their Pre-Departure briefing last week, Second Secretary Skills and Labour Mobility at the Australian High Commission, Christina Skoumbourdis, congratulated the workers and encouraged them to be good ambassadors of Solomon Islands.

Collin Beck, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, on behalf of the Solomon Islands Government also reminded workers to always adhere to health restrictions and look out for conducts that might jeopardize their engagement.

Labour mobility remains one of the most valued components of Australia’s engagement with the Pacific and Timor-Leste, under our Pacific ‘Step Up’.

Our labour mobility program delivers direct and tangible benefits to both the Solomon Islands and Australia.
