At the end of a bumpy road the heavily padlocked steel gate seems like the entry to a prison compound. But a prison the Christian Care Centre is not. It is a sanctuary, safe haven and happy place for women and their children escaping abuse.
The centre is far from anywhere else, with its secured, well-cared-for lawns and peaceful surroundings reachable only after a long drive into a quiet beachfront guarded mostly by sandflies, a fence and kind-hearted Anglican sisters.
