Honiara : 5 September 2016
Letter to the Editor, Solomon Star Newspaper.
The donation of S$50.000 each to the Honiara Christian Care Centre and the San Isidro Care Centre last Friday was a generous and most welcome charitable act.
The money had been raised as part of the local celebrations honouring Malaysia’s Independence Day and to all those who contributed, but especially to the Malaysian Consulate, I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation.
The donations were personally handed over to the two care centres by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon. Manasseh Maelanga. The Acting Prime Minister reiterated that the DCCG was committed to continue supporting the two institutions in the future.
Brother George, at the San Isidro Care Centre, when accepting the S$50,000 donation said the money would go towards building a new dormitory for male students, currently living in thatched huts.
He added with over 60 students to accommodate, the Centre’s administration is planning to complete the new dormitory building by 2017.
The San Isidro Care Centre aspires to provide children living with disabilities a bright future, and so far, training on woodwork, carpentry and agriculture for boys, and home economics and agriculture for girl students administered by the centre has continued to equip the students with the knowledge and skills to help them sustain their living after they leave the centre.
When he presented the donation to the Coordinator of the Christian Care Centre, Sister, Phyllis, Margaret Sau, Hon.Maelanga said, “It is through my heart that I decided to present your organization this donation to enable you to continue with the good work of supporting affected mothers and children.”
“It is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
