Covid 19 positive cases in SI surpass 1000 but the 7day rolling average since the outbreak has declined

Wednesday, 23 March

Jimmy Nolan writing in the Solomon Times Online today has said, and I quote

Cumulative cases of Positive COVID-19 cases in the country have surpassed the 10,000 mark, while deaths resulting from COVID-19 has now reached 128.

Health Minister Dr. Culwick Togamana gave the update during his COVID-19 situation update on the national broadcaster, SIBC.

He says the country has registered a total of 251 new positive cases over the past 72 hours, pushing the country's cumulative total to 10,204.

Of the 251 new cases, 53 are in Honiara, 1 in Malaita, 17 in Guadalcanal, 87 in West, 9 in Choiseul, 59 in Isabel, 16 in Makira and 9 in Rennell/Bellona. There were updated no reports from Central, while Temotu remains COVID-19 free.

The Health Minister says trends show that the 7 days rolling average since the outbreak in January has declined, with March recording an average of 120-160 cases, compared to 200 cases in January and February.

He says overall cases could be higher than what is recorded, seeing that a lot of people that were sick during the outbreak chose to stay home and did not get tested.

He urges the public to continue with public health safety measures, and to get fully vaccinated or boosted to get maximum protection.
