Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare has expressed his overwhelming joy to officiate the launching of the country’s own Computed Tomography (CT) scanner some 40 years after the nation’s political independence.
The procurement and set-up of the CT Scan is one of the flagship policies of the government under the leadership of PM Sogavare.
The CT scan and the building that houses the machine is wholly funded by the national government at a value of SBD $21 million.
PM Sogavare was visibly gratified with the successful launching of the project as he rightly pointed out that the machine is the first after more than 40 years since our independence as a nation.
“I’m overjoyed that we finally have our own CT Scan after some 40 years after Independence. Now we do not need to send our patients overseas for such services”, PM Sogavare highlighted.
Speaking as the guest of honor, PM Sogavare acknowledged the ministries of Health and Medical Services, and Foreign Affairs and External Trade for collaborating with the Australian government to bring the CT scan into the country.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the arrival of the CT scan makes it possible for its installation and application in April of this year and now its launching.
PM Manasseh Sogavare further pointed out that the CT scan will help to assist the health and wellbeing of our people.
He urged the doctors and nurses to make good use of the machine to serve our people.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the launching is the testament of two years of hard work.
While acknowledging the launching of the CT scan, PM Sogavare openly said he wished that the government’s other flagship policies could emulate that of the successful launching of the CT scan.
Also giving his remarks was the Minister of Health and Medical Services Dr. Culwick Togamana, who applauded the leadership of the Prime Minister for delivering the CT scan equipment.
Dr. Togamana reiterated that the successful launching of the CT scan follows the successful past two years in which the government has prevented COVID- 19 from spreading within the communities.
Dr. Togamana echoed the sentiment that with the availability of the CT scan, patients will no longer be sent overseas for similar services.
