Quoting the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation 12 March 2018
The countrys second international airport, the Munda airport in New Georgia, Western Province, is nearing completion.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Aviation Moses Virivolomo said his ministry is making progress in its work to meet all requirements prior to the project deadline.
The fencing is finished; runway lights and lighting are almost finished, Mr Virivolomo said. Fire trucks will arrive by the end of April, and the airport should be tentatively completed by June.
It is anticipated that once the Munda International Airport enters its operational phase, it will boost tourism in the province and serve as a backup for services offered at the Henderson International Airport in Honiara.
The New Zealand Government committed about US$26 million to the airport project.
