The Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Kenichi Kimiya, said Japan is delighted to work with the Solomon Islands Government to further develop the infrastructure in Solomon Islands.
The Ambassador made the remarks last night at a function hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Honiara to celebrate the 83rd Birthday of Emperor Akihito of Japan.
He said through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); two major infrastructure projects have been implemented in Solomon Islands.
These are the Honiara Port Improvement Project which has been completed and handed over to Solomon Islands this year and the Kukum Highway Upgrading Project which is currently under construction.
The road improvement project is expected to be completed in 2018.
Ambassador Kimiya said, “These projects are a symbolic token of the friendship between Japan and Solomon Islands and added that, we are very delightful to work together with the Government of Solomon Islands to further the development of infrastructure in this country.”
On that note he requested the assistance and cooperation of all stakeholders to ‘facilitate’ the smooth implementation of the ‘big’ project (Kukum Highway Upgrading Project)
Ambassador Kimiya said as the first resident Ambassador of Japan to Solomon Islands since the upgrade of the Japanese diplomatic mission to a fully-fledged embassy earlier this year, he will ensure even better quality services to the Government and people of Solomon Islands.
