Lessons of Service subservience to the teaching of the Christian faith putting oneself before others and the principles of democracy

Yesterday, just as I did in June 1953, at the coronation of her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I watched the sacred moments of King Charles III coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey in London.

Amongst the many guests at yesterday's ceremony was the Solomon Islands own Governor-General, Sir David Vunagi, GCMG, who I witnessed enter the Abbey along with his wife Lady Mary Vunagi. Both were preceded by a military officer carrying the Solomon Islands national flag.

In 1953 I was just 14 yrs. old, and I didn’t really follow or deeply understand the several important factors relative to the allegiance the Sovereign made in respect of the acceptance and teaching of the faith, to the pledge to serve the people and to the principles of the continuity of democracy.

His Excellency Sir David being an ex- retired Anglican Bishop would have witnessed all the pledges made by HR King Charles yesterday and I wonder how on his return home he will be able to educate and advise the people of the Solomon Islands on the values of church teaching, putting oneself first despite the trappings of great power and political influence and on the retaining of democracy.

Yours sincerely

Frank Short.
