Fiji monitors measles outbreak in NZ and Pacific

Quoting Radio New Zealand – 25 October 2019

“Health authorities in Fiji are monitoring measles outbreaks in New Zealand and across the Pacific.

“The health ministry said due to an "effective immunisation program in Fiji, measles is rare in the country".

“But it said the outbreaks put Fijians at risk of contracting the disease while travelling in the region.

“Fijians should take precaution when travelling to New Zealand, Samoa or Tonga.

“Parents should ensure their children are vaccinated, it said.

In Samoa, an outbreak was declared after a toddler died in Apia's hospital of a suspected measles infection.

“Now the virus has reached Tonga too, with its government this week officially declaring a measles outbreak.
