MORE MALES INFECTED WITH COVID 19 THAN FEMALES

3 March 2022

More males have been infected with Covid-19 than females, according to recently released data from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

From epidemiological analysis on 4,443 cases, 60 percent males have been tested positive for COVID -19 compared to 40 percent females on the gender scale.

The analysis indicated that the majority of cases are between the ages 25 to 45 years, with the 35 to 39 years age group recording the highest number of infections.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health and Medical Services, Dr. Culwick Togamana last night announced a decline in infections in the month of February compared to January.

“Our testing is maintained at high levels with nearly 400 plus tests being done on an average, which, means that we were seeing a declining trend in the number of positive cases in Honiara,” the Minister said.

Minister Togamana added that the current data on admissions to the National Referral Hospital and deaths related to COVID-19 are mostly those unvaccinated with few only having their first COVID-19 vaccine dose.
