OPERATING THEATRE REPAIR WORKS HALTED TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH GOV’T STANDARDS
The decision to halt crucial repair works undertaken by two contracting firms at the two operating theatres of the National Referral Hospital (NRH) was to ensure renovation of the theatres are carried out to the highest technical standards, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) revealed today.
Repair works to the two operating theatres started last Saturday but was halted by MHMS officials in an effort to sort out technical issues before repair work can be continued.
A statement from the ministry said, “The MHMS Executive is very conscious of the delay in renovating the Operation Theatres. However, the scope of work requires a proper assessment and procurement of appropriate materials from outside Solomon Islands.
Meanwhile, the statement said the MHMS assures the public that it maintains critical services throughout the renovation period.
While renovation work is being carried out, NRH has in place a temporary arrangement to deal with any emergency surgery and would like to assure the public that critical services will continue throughout the renovation period.
Furthermore, the statement said that MHMS is seriously considering building the capacity of the NRH to undertake further maintenance works on a regular basis before they become critical and result in the unplanned closure of any important service in the future.
