Chiefs work to resolve land issues

Quoting the Solomon Star newspaper – 9 November 2018

“FAUKWAE House of chiefs in North Malaita is currently working very hard to help solve land issues in the region, to allow development activities to reach the constituency.

“Speaking to Solomon Star Auki, a paramount chief of Foukwae House of Chiefs, Richard Rarangia Oiomea said they have already established and identified a total of 68 tribes in North Malaita constituency.

“This was based on a survey that has been carried out since 2000.

“He said at this stage, those tribes have already showed their interest to work together in settling land issues so that development can take place in the constituency.

“Mr Oiomea added that a meeting will be arranged for representatives from the 68 tribe to attend and discuss the proposal.

“The venue and date is yet to be confirmed,” he said.

“The meeting is purposely to arrange and plan for any reconciliation and settlement of land boundaries in North Malaita, which I believe may help the government’s land reform program.”
