Carved nativity set from the Solomon Islands being displayed in Canada

The beautifully made nativity set, carved by Ralph Ako from Marovo Lagoon, at the request of a catholic church in Canada continues to draw praise overseas and from many readers of my website – www.solomonislandsinfocus.com.

In a new letter from the church, I received a photograph and the following message:

“I am sending you a picture of the nativity set Ralph Ako made.

“I wanted to do justice to the amazing work Ralph did and this is how it will be displayed in the church at Christmas with the house and palm trees in the background, along with the star of Bethlehem, which is actually a starfish made of resin, and the water and fishing net in the foreground.

 Msgr. Greg Ace.”

It is good to know Ralph’s carving has been so appreciated and reflects much credit on the craftsmanship of talented Solomon Islanders skilled in the art of wood carving.

 Yours sincerely

 Frank Short
