Solomon Islands:  A birthing and urban health centre being funded by Australia is under construction and expected to alleviate some of the current concerns being experienced at the NRH when ready

Following a government’s delegation visit to the National Referral Hospital on Monday, the Health Minister Hon. Dickson Mua said there was truth in what the doctors had said to the Prime about the urgent needs of the labor, ward and the post-natal and gynecology wards.

Dr.Mua has said he would look into the current state of the labor ward and had already instructed the Permanent Secretary of his Ministry to follow-up on the reported issues.

The Health Ministry said he was very impressed by the way the doctors had looked after their wards.

In a separate, but very welcome announcement, it was reported that a new birthing and urban health centre at Naha was under construction.

It has been said the government of Australia is financing the project with SBD$25 million. and, when completed, the new facility is expected to alleviate some of the current concerns at the National Referral Hospital.
