Solomons: 46 MPs hand in report on cash grant funds

Quoting the Island Sun newspaper – 19 February 2019

“FORTY-SIX members of Parliament have submitted their 2018 cash grant acquittal reports by the deadline on February 15.

“Two MPs of Western province have assured the Ministry of Rural Development that they will send their reports this week because they are currently in their constituencies.
Ministry of Rural Development will retire the reports of the other two MPs from Guadalcanal.

“MRD Permanent Secretary, Allan Daonga expressed satisfaction on the response of all MPs.
Daonga said the retirement by the MPs was good compared to past years.

“Each MP had received $1.1 million cash grant from the Solomon Islands Government and $1.4 million funding from Republic of China (ROC) every year in the last four years.

“Island Sun understands MPs who failed to submit their 2018 cash grant acquittal reports after the February-15 deadline can be charged under the Public Finance and Management Act because they are public funds.”
