Time for a word or two of appreciation

The national flag carrier has welcomed the Cabinet announcement that it has dropped the 72 hours pre-departure COVID-19 test requirement for Solomon Islands-bound travellers.

In a statement yesterday, Solomon Airlines conveyed its gratitude and at the same time informed travellers of the Cabinet announcement.

“It’s official! For all fully COVID-19 vaccinated passengers that pre-departure COVID-19 testing and pre-approval prior to departure is no longer required for entry into Solomon Islands.

Perhaps once should just pause a little at this juncture to thank the Solomon Islands Government, the MHMS, NRH, the frontline workers, the vaccination personnel and the vaccination donors, and not forgetting the people themselves who followed WHO advice to get themselves vaccinated against the Covid-19 pandemic that so badly affected the country, shutting down the tourism trade and the lay off from work of many employees.

The prompt and effective response to the Covid=19 crisis hss brought us to where we are today and better prepared to deal with any further resurgence of Covid in new strains.

For now let us all be thankful and see a recovery of airline services, an increase in tourist numbers and a return to work of employees who had been laid off during the height of the pandemic.

Yours sincerely
