What happen to the CITREC programme for Malaita

6 May 2022

A local resident prompted the following to story to be published in the Island land Sun newspaper, and I quote the article in full.

 Quote.

“Malaita Province youths who were selected for the Canadian International Training and Education Corp (CITREC) program are asking when they will start the programme since their selection in 2019.

A total of 44 youths from 33 wards in Malaita Province were selected to be part of the programme by the former provincial government Malaita Alliance for Reform and Transformation (MART).

According to the concerned youths, those selected under the program are entitled to travel to Canada for work.

However, they said since their selection they have not heard anything about the programme
“None of the selected recipients made it to Canada as arranged.

“We were promised that we would go for training and work as part of a labour mobility scheme between Canada and Solomon Islands,” one youth said.

He called on the current MARA Government to investigate this matter.

 End of quote.
