Winston Peters is leading a ministerial delegation on a 24 hour visit to the republic.
Mr Peters and fellow ministers Carmel Sepuloni and Aupito William Sio were welcomed with a cultural blessing from local elders at Bonriki airport this afternoon.
As the delegation left the airport they were greeted by hundreds of school children lining the streets of South Tarawa with Kiribati and New Zealand flags in hand.
Mr Peters is meeting the Kiribati President Taneti Maamau before inspecting local resilience and education projects on Friday.
