Appreciating the charitable efforts in aid of the Solomons MOHMS and NRH

The April newsletter of Take My Hands Charity Trust (my partner charity in New Zealand) features details of a possible partnership between the Solomon Islands National Referral Hospital (NRH), the Solomons MHMS, Canterbury University and Fisher and Paykel Healthcare.

The partnership proposal would centre on the long-term bio-medical needs in the Solomon Islands.

The proposal was outlined in April by Ms Janette Searle of Take My Hands and representatives of both Canterbury University and Paykel  Healthcare when a meeting took place in Honiara with officials of the MOHMS and the NRH.

The arrangements for the bio-medical outlined project are well in hand in New Zealand and TMH is awaiting a response from the MOHMS to determine the possible implementation of the project.

While Ms Searle was in Honiara she was present for the opening of the “awesome” blood bank facility at the NRH.

The blood bank facility was initiated with the very generous support from Rotary and the Solomons Forestry Association (SFA).

TMH continues to aid the MOHMS and Swire Shipping freighted a 20 foot container with hospital beds, side tables and disposable items completely free of freight charges to further support the needs of the NRH.

The container is awaiting clearance from the SIPA wharf before being removed to the NRH and the much needed hospital beds off-loaded and put to practical use.

I extend my personal thanks to TMH, Swire Shipping, Rotary, the Board of SIPA, and the SFA and to the CEO of the NRH for all done in the pursuit of the desire to see the NRH benefits from charitable assistance.

Yours sincerely

Frank Short
