North-West Guadalcanal Constituency MP delivers fibreglass boats and chainsaws to his constituents
According to an article in today’s Solomon Star newspaper, the MP for North-West Guadalcanal, Bob Dettke, using Constituency Development Funds (CDF) has delivered several fibre-glass boats, with Yamaha engines, chainsaws and a grass cutter to the people of his constituency.
It is said the boats will support the local people with sea transport and when fishing.
The chainsaws will be used to cut timber that could be sold sat the Central Market in Honiara.
There have been reports of the alleged misuse of CDF funds in the Solomon Islands in the past, but the delivery of boats and equipment to the constituents of North West Guadalcanal provides the tangible evidence that has often been absent.
I hope the operators of the boats will ensure they wear protective life vests when at sea and the boats will carry safety equipment including flares to be used if in distress.
